Seeing with a New Eye: Observation and Rhythm

This is the first class in the series and must be taken before or consecutively with other classes in the series.

Parents and caretakers of toddlers spend most of their days attempting to keep up with the almost constant motion and energy that marks this exciting stage of development. In this class, adults enjoy a break when they form a circle around the perimeter of the room and bring their calm focused attention to the children. Children play and bring their joyful discoveries and challenges to their parents. A conversation and handcrafts follow observation time. Then every one sings the clean-up song, enjoys a “picnic-style” snack, engages in singing games before saying good-bye for the week. Discussion topics supported by weekly readings from You Are Your Child's First Teacher by Rahima Baldwin include: baby to toddler, rhythms for waking, eating and sleeping, communication and boundaries, and self-renewal.

Monday classes offered at two times:

11:00 AM-1:00 PM

Fall Session begins October 1

Winter Session begins December 3

The Thread Follows the Needle: Seasonal Crafts and Conversation

This class inspires parents to bring nature into their homes by creating seasonal displays, including the celebration of various seasonal festivals, the birthday table and the sharing of different traditions. In the Fall session, we will make pumpkins and finger puppets, and in the Winter session, a Father Winter table puppet figure to watch over the icicle fairies. In the Spring session, felted eggs and spring baskets will be created by parents' busy hands and limitless imaginations. During the crafts activities, children will play in the classroom. Parents will explore the value of a seasonal table as a tool in the home, discuss and explore topics of the festivals.

Work and Sing with Love: Imitation and Song, Rhyme and Rhythm

Children are naturally drawn to music and songs, and a parent’s voice is the perfect teacher.  Designed with the same format as "Seeing with a New Eye," this class includes observation, sharing of parenting topics and an exploration of music for the very young child. Parents experience the healing tone of their own voice and learn beautiful melodies that soothe and support the young child's dreamy consciousness. All parents come out of this class singing!!

Tuesdays 8:30 - 10:30 AM

Spring Session begins March 19
