History
The Waldorf School of the Peninsula is located in an unincorporated area of Los Altos, California, approximately 35 miles south of San Francisco. Although it is part of Silicon Valley, the area surrounding the school has retained a distinctly natural character, and the residents are dedicated to preserving the quiet, relaxed, rural atmosphere of the foothills. The pleasant country aspect of the neighborhood provides a quiet and natural environment that is ideal for our children and our school.
The school was established in 1984 with a preschool, kindergarten and grades one through four. The founders were struck with the great need, in this highly technological area, for a school that would address the heart and will as well as the mind. The vision of the founders was to offer an educational alternative that embraced the spiritual and did not reject but moved beyond technology.
In July of 1995 the school moved to its permanent site in Los Altos, the former Eastbrook Elementary School at 11311 Mora Drive. We have 245 students in our nursery school, three kindergartens and grades one through eight. Our families come from all over the Bay Area. Enrollment has nearly doubled in the last five years, and the average class size in grades one to eight is 21 students.
Our campus consists of more than two and a half acres of land. We have a biodynamic garden, spacious classrooms, handwork room, administrative offices, gift store, aftercare room and multiple play areas.
In Fall 2007 we will open the Waldorf School of the Peninsula High School.
