Early Childhood Program
Children in the nursery program thrive in the rhythm of daily, weekly, and seasonal activities and learn to love their world through meaningful tasks. Imitation is the young child’s special gift and natural way of learning. The Waldorf nursery and kindergarten classrooms are harmonious, homelike environments that are beautiful, warm, and nurturing. In these environments imagination and creativity flourish with children participating in meaningful tasks that develop coordination, cooperative social skills while unfolding creative and imaginative capacities that build a strong foundation for later academics.
The children’s morning naturally flows between social and individual activities that reflect the children’s need for both active and quiet play. The teacher creates a secure, inviting, and joyful environment, instilling the surroundings with wonder, awe, and most importantly, love. This feeling of respect and security allows young children to explore their environment and begin the lifelong process of engagement with the world.
As you open the door of an early childhood classroom, the comforting aroma of freshly baked wheat bread drifts over the hum of children engaged in creative play. The room’s warm colors embrace the children as they transform natural treasures into imaginary worlds.
The seasons and festivals of the year color the mood of the kindergarten and form the basis for songs, poems, games, and finger plays in the circle. Through both circle time and storytelling, the children learn to listen attentively, create their own inner pictures, cultivate a sense of language, and develop rhythmic and counting abilities.
